Frequently asked questions
I moved items to the Trash, but I have not got more space.
DevSpace moves files to the Trash, so you can undo. Empty the Trash in Finder to get the space back. node_modules folders installed with pnpm are hard links into the shared pnpm store, so they free less space than their size suggests.
Will removing these files break my projects?
Items marked Safe are recreated automatically by their tool. Items marked Rebuild needed come back after npm install, pod install, cargo build and similar. Items marked Review first – archives and simulators – are never selected for you.
Can I get a removed item back?
Yes, until the Trash is emptied: open the Trash in Finder and choose Put Back.
Why does DevSpace ask for my Home folder?
Mac App Store apps can only look at folders you choose. Developer caches live in many places inside your Home folder, so DevSpace asks once. You can add other folders, such as projects on an external drive, or remove access in Settings.
Why can I not remove Xcode data right now?
DevSpace waits while Xcode or Simulator is running, to avoid half-removed data. Quit them and try again.
Does DevSpace clean Docker or simulator runtimes?
Not yet. Both are outside what a Mac App Store app may access. Use docker system prune and xcrun simctl runtime for those.
